Bioheat Fuel FAQs

Bioheat fuel is a largely American-made energy source. American farmers and producers create biodiesel from a range of domestic agriculture and waste products. Right now, U.S. biodiesel producers manufacture more than 3 billion gallons annually, and that number continues to grow!

It depends on the blend. You might see terms like B10 or B20. These refer to the percentage of biodiesel in a particular Bioheat blend (i.e., B20 contains 20 percent biodiesel). Fraticelli Oil & Propane typically works to provide a product with 20% biodiesel, which has better greenhouse gas performance than natural gas. Please rest assured that we always set our blend percentage to ensure our fuel remains plentiful and affordable.

Bioheat fuel will last about 18 to 24 months, so you should not have to worry about fuel “expiring” in your tank.

The heating oil industry is on track to accomplish its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 by working toward a 100 percent biodiesel product. Already, a leading manufacturer has developed burners with B100-compliant components. Also, the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA) has fitted a home in New York with 100 percent biodiesel heating and solar panels for electricity — proving that households can achieve net-zero carbon emissions quickly and at an economically viable cost!
