There are multiple components when it comes to using kerosene safely, one of which is knowing the difference between type 1-K kerosene and type 2-K kerosene.
Type 1-K kerosene is usually only used for heaters. It has a sulfur content of 0.04% by weight and is considered safe to use inside thanks to the fact that it is clean burning.
Type 2-K kerosene has a sulfur content of 0.30% by weight. This higher sulfur content gives type 2-K kerosene a stronger scent. Because a buildup of type 2-K fumes can potentially be dangerous, this type of kerosene should only be used in heaters and appliances that have a flue.
